Volunteering at Tom Settlemire Community Garden

The Tom Settlemire Community Garden thrives because of the generous time and energy of volunteers from all walks of life. Whether you have lots of gardening experience or none, we welcome you to join us. Our garden is a vibrant learning space where people of all ages and abilities come together to help grow fresh food, nurture plants, and build community.

We’re always excited to welcome Master Gardeners, passionate weeders, and folks with skills in construction or repair, but don’t worry if you’re new to gardening or volunteering! Whether you’re a plot holder fulfilling your volunteer hours, a community member looking for a meaningful way to connect, or part of an organization seeking a group volunteer opportunity, there’s a place for you here at TSCG.

Thank you for helping make the garden a welcoming, thriving space for everyone to grow.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Common Good Garden:
The Common Good Garden, a project in the Tom Settlemire Community Garden, is dedicated to growing fresh, healthy produce for local food security programs. Each season, a team of committed volunteers cultivates hundreds to thousands of pounds of vegetables to support Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP) and other local food security initiatives. At its heart, the Common Good Garden is about more than just growing food—it's about cultivating compassion, community, and connection. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or have never held a trowel, this is a great option for people who like to make friends, share stories, feed the community, and learn more about growing vegetables. All are welcome—no RSVP or experience needed! Just show up ready to dig in and help grow good food for a great cause. Interested in being part of the core volunteer team and receiving seasonal updates and opportunities? Reach out to us at garden@btlt.org to be added to the email list.

    • Volunteer Work Days take place on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 8:30–10:30am May through October, unless it’s raining or over 80 degrees.
