Hideaway Farm

Hideaway Farm Preserve is a 33 acre property located along the Cathance River in Topsham less than a mile downstream from Head of Tide Park. Conservation of the Preserve was made possible through the conservation of two adjoining parcels between 2019 and 2022 and provides a wooded buffer to over 3,200 feet of shoreline along the Cathance River, including tidal marshes and wetlands, which are state designated Significant Tidal Wading Bird and Waterfowl Habitat that provides nesting, feeding and roosting for numerous bird species. The Preserve was named in memory of the beloved farm that provided horse drawn sleigh and wagon rides throughout the woods and farm field on the property, and the field that formerly pastured horses and ponies contains prime agricultural soils of statewide significance and a stand of apple trees over a century old.

Directions & Parking: The Preserve is located at the end of Katie Lane in Topsham, across the train tracks where a 5-7 car parking area is located. The .4-mile out and back trail departs from the parking area along an old woods road and is fairly level and flat, meandering through the open understory with views of the Cathance River leading out to a picnic area which offers stunning views of the Cathance River and its many inhabitants.
