Nordic ski marathons…just for fun!

TylerIn the summer of 2013, we were lucky to have Maine native Tyler DeAngelis (Readfield) as our summer intern from Bowdoin College. As we learned, Tyler had enthusiasm and energy to burn!  His curious mind and self-motivation made him a wonderful intern, and we discovered he had other passions as well.  His training regime as a member of the Bowdoin Nordic team was, well, breathtaking, to say the least.  Many residents of our community likely saw Tyler and his training partner roller skiing and running the streets of Brunswick, Bowdoinham, Richmond, Freeport (yes, and beyond!) at all hours of the day, in all types of weather.  A 20-mile roller ski (preferably with lots of hills) was a routine workout for Tyler.

His passion for Nordic skiing has now led Tyler to Europe where he and a Bowdoin classmate are crisscrossing Europe in search of cross country ski marathons. Tyler and Jackson are blogging about their ski adventures and their blog is a great read.  477 kilometers of racing and eight ski marathons in eight countries.  If you want to learn what it’s like jockeying for position with 16,000 other skiers, check it out!
