The Garden is Calling
April 14th is National Gardening Day, and we are excited to start digging into the soil and getting our hands dirty here at the Tom Settlemire Community Garden (TSCG)! There’s nothing quite like the first signs of spring in the Garden—the smell of fresh earth, the buzz of pollinators waking up, and the joyful chatter of community members reconnecting with the land and each other. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or have never touched a trowel, we invite you to join us this season and experience the magic of TSCG for yourself.
Here’s just a glimpse of what makes this space so special:
- 75+ gardening plots available to the community with access to tools and resources for plotholders
- Incredible perennial beds blooming all season long
- Certified pollinator-friendly gardens (just ask the thousands of happy pollinators!)
- Family-friendly space with picnic tables and a playset
- Little Free Library stocked with garden-themed books
- The Common Good Garden, where volunteers grow thousands of pounds of fresh food for local hunger relief programs
- And of course, the dozens of dedicated volunteers who make this place grow (literally)!

Plot applications for new gardeners are open until Wednesday, April 16th, so don’t miss your chance to dig into a season of sunshine, veggies, and community connection. Learn more and apply here.
No plot? No problem! You can still get involved!
Whether you’re a compost enthusiast, plant whisperer, or just excited to lend a hand, we’d love to have you volunteer at the Garden. No experience necessary—just a willingness to learn and have fun! There’s lots of upcoming volunteer opportunities at TSCG including:
Spring Volunteer Workday: Help us kick off the season! We’ll be sprucing up the Garden, tackling some maintenance tasks, and getting things in tip-top shape. Saturday, May 10th from 1:30–4:00pm.
Common Good Garden Workdays: Support our food donation beds by helping prep soil, plant onion seedlings, and more! Tuesdays & Thursdays, starting April 22 | 8:30–10:30am.
Compost Team Workdays: Get in on the (worm-filled) action and help us turn garden waste into gold! Tuesdays from 8:30–10:30am, starting April 22nd. Wednesdays from 5:00–6:30pm, every other week starting May 7th.
Plant Sale Workdays: Help us get ready for one of our favorite events of the year!
Garden Perennial Bed Clean-up: Saturday, April 26th from 9am–12pm
Dig & Pot Days: Wednesday, May 7th from 4–6pm Saturday, May 10th from 9am–12pm Wednesday, May 14th from 4–6pm
