#GivingTuesday is November 27 and every dollar you donate will be dedicated to the trails at Neptune Woods on Brunswick Landing.
A great new set of youth mountain bike trails are ready to ride at Brunswick Landing (the former Brunswick Naval Air Station), but we need your help to make Neptune Woods a long-term reality.
A 64-acre parcel close to the Brunswick Recreation Center and existing trails, was identified by mountain bike enthusiasts as a good location for beginner-friendly mountain bike trails. BTLT worked with Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA), the local Six Rivers chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (6R-NEMBA), and Mid Coast Hospital to make this vision a reality. MRRA donated the land to BTLT to manage permanently for public use, 6R-NEMBA volunteers designed and built the trails, and Mid Coast Hospital provided funding for trail building supplies. The trails are open and available for hiking, running, biking, and winter uses.
There’s still work to be done!
Your tax-deductible gift will be in support of the following:
Replacing jersey barriers
Installing a kiosk and permanent signage
Trail maintenance including additional bridging through a wet area on a Navy-built trail
A parking area
Taking down Navy perimeter fence
Possible small skills area on the property
Long term stewardship – maintaining community partnerships with groups that engage with the property and neighbors (Town of Brunswick Rec, NEMBA, Bowdoin College, Navy, etc), annual monitoring (required for all conserved properties), dealing with inappropriate uses (dumping, vandalism, inappropriate trail use such as ATVs) – keeping in mind that this is a high use property.
#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on November 28. #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
