It’s been a busy summer for our stewardship team! We’re so excited to share that we’ve completed the construction of 60+ box steps on the Cathance River Trail on either side of the 40-foot bridge at Cathance River Nature Preserve. This completes the six yearlong trail re-route project to officially re-connect the nearly 3-mile long Cathance River Trail between the Preserve and Head of Tide Park. A big thank you to OBP Trailworks, Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund, and Highland Green for contributing to this project and making it possible!

Our stewardship crew also completed the removal of rotten bog bridging along the Heath Outlet Trail and replaced it with 240 continuous feet of board walk enhancements, providing relief from previously wet areas along the Heath Outlet Trail as well as improved views of the Heath. Many thanks to the Highland Green residents who contributed equipment and funding to this project!

We encourage folks to get out on the Preserve this month and check out these fabulous new improvements to the trails! Bringing some kiddos? Go on a Sunday and check out the CREA Ecology Center!
