Young Explorers picking blueberries

Join Bob & Sue Pinette for a guided walk of the blueberry barrens of Crystal Spring Farm. The walk will focus on the unique botany of the barrens and the interesting woodland plants along the Blueberry Trail Loop.  In the early 2000s BTLT conserved the 21 acre blueberry barren as one of the final piece to the 321 acre Crystal Spring Farm property.

Bob was born in Fort Kent, Maine and studied botany and mycology at Iowa State University. In the 1980’s he returned to his Aroostook County roots serving as a biology professor at The University of Maine at Presque Isle for 33 years. His research focused on the diversity of fungi in northern Maine. Currently, Bob is performing a plant survey of the Blueberry Barrens for the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust.

Bob and Sue retired to Brunswick seven years ago. Sue is a BTLT Stewardship Committee member with training in horticulture. Since moving to the Midcoast she has developed a special interest in the region’s native plants.

The walk should take 1hr.  We suggest wearing sturdy shoes and bringing water, sunscreen and a hat. Park along Pleasant Hill Road where the Blueberry loop begins.  See map here.

This event is free but registration is required!

The BTLT Stewardship Tour Series seeks to introduce the community to land conservation, stewardship, and history by offering guided walks with the Land Trust’s incredible Stewardship Team!
