Spring Birding Extravaganza: Youth Bird Walk
Join Sylus Caswell, Brunswick High School freshman, for a youth bird walk intended for kids aged 6-11. There will be through the forest listening and watching for local and migratory songbirds, and then a chance to look through a spotting scope for shore birds and waterfowl along upper Middle Bay. Sylus has been birding for about 5 years and recently did a short talk about Audubon’s White-Eyed Vireo at Bowdoin College.
The walk will take place on the Coleman Farm trails in Pennellville neighborhood of Brunswick. Park along the road near the soccer fields on Pennellville Road. Kids must have adult supervision, and should bring sturdy/waterproof shoes and binoculars if they have them. Please register both yourself and your child. Registration is required and capped at 20 people.

What is the Spring Birding Extravaganza?

One of the joys of spring is the return of birds of all shapes, sizes and colors. Who doesn’t love stepping outside to a chorus of birdsong or catching a glimpse of bright red or yellow in the trees? The new warmth of spring and the longer days draws birds to make their spring migration. The window of time before the leaves come out provides a perfect opportunity to get a good look at our feathered neighbors. To help you identify and learn more about our local birds, several conservation groups collaborate each spring to offer the Birding Extravaganza! All events are free and open to all. Advance registration is required and each organization follows COVID-19 policies to keep everyone safe. Looking for other bird walks? Check out our fellow partnering organizations: Harpswell Heritage Land Trust, Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, and Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
