CREA Camp 2026 Begins June 29!
Starting June 29, more than 200 young explorers will spend their summer days discovering the wonders of the natural world at the Cathance River Nature Preserve. For seven weeks, campers will splash through streams, search for wildlife, build friendships, and create memories that last long after summer ends.
Every summer since 2000, CREA Camp has offered children the opportunity to trade screens for sunshine and adventure. Whether they’re investigating pond life, identifying birds, hiking forest trails, or learning about local ecosystems, campers experience hands-on environmental education.
CREA Camp by the Numbers:
- 2 turtle species regularly seen in the pond
- 3 miles traveled on campers’ Friday hike to Clay Brook
- 5 dedicated camp counselors leading the adventure
- 7 weeks of outdoor exploration
- 16 teen Counselors-in-Training building leadership skills
- 35 hours spent learning and playing in nature each week
- 75° average high temperature during Topsham summers
- 143 bird species that call the Cathance River Nature Preserve home
- 205 campers joining us this season
- 8,000 feet of river frontage to explore along the Preserve
Behind each number is a story. It’s the excitement of spotting a turtle sunning on a log, the accomplishment of reaching Clay Brook with friends, the thrill of identifying a bird call, and the confidence that comes from trying something new outdoors.
CREA Camp is a place where children develop a deeper connection to nature, gain independence, build friendships, and discover that learning can happen everywhere, especially outside.
As we prepare to welcome campers back to the Preserve, we’re grateful for the families, staff, volunteers, and supporters who make this program possible. Together, we’re helping the next generation become curious learners, thoughtful stewards, and lifelong lovers of the natural world.
