A Walk at Androscoggin Woods
by Amelie Pasco, BTLT Summer Intern
We pulled off of Lewiston onto a dirt path, grasses growing between the tire marks down the driveway. A warm air, heavy with the weight of the coming summer storm, greeted us as we opened the car doors and stepped out towards the entrance of the trail.
Through a tunnel of trees, birdsong accompanied the muted sound of our steps on fallen pine needles and ruffling leaves around us. We spoke here and there, nostalgic windows into our time outdoors as kids, letting the forest fill the comfortable silence.
Branches and leaves framed the Androscoggin River to my left, weaving heavy blue and gray hues in and out of sight, the soft ripple of water lapping against the bank never too far away.
As we closed the loop, we headed down the slope towards the water access and took in the view from across the river, tracing the layers of the neighboring forest with our eyes, and taking in the sticky summer air.
I left content and inspired, basking in awe of the trees and the leaves and the little rings in the water made by smooth stones skipped along riverbanks in good company.
