August and September are the perfect months to celebrate something we already know and love: our local farmers markets! From August 1-September 30, American Farmland Trust is hosting the Farmers Market Celebration, and August 3–9 was National Farmers Market Week. Both shine a spotlight on the incredible role markets play in building strong, resilient communities.

Whether you come to the BTLT Saturday Farmers Market at Crystal Spring Farm for your weekly grocery staples or a special treat, shop for vegan goodies or adventurous new discoveries, or simply seek a warm, welcoming place to spend a Saturday morning, we hope you’ll find it here.

Rooted in Place

Since 1999, the BTLT Farmers Market has been part of the fabric of our community, set against the backdrop of 331 acres of conserved farmland at Crystal Spring Farm. It’s not just a place to shop, it’s a place to connect with farmers, neighbors, and friends.

This season, 43 vendors fill our market stalls with everything from wild Maine blueberries to sweet corn, golden beets to oysters, yarn to baked goods. Seven vendors are based right here in Brunswick, including our closest neighbor, Suncatcher Flower Farm, growing flowers just steps away from the Market field. Our furthest vendor makes the trek all the way from Monroe (over two hours away!), while most are less than an hour’s drive. Together, they represent multi-generation farms and brand-new businesses, certified organic growers, and creative food makers, all contributing to the diversity of agricultural goods in our region.

Food for Everyone

We believe everyone should have access to fresh, healthy, local food, and food access programs help make that possible. The BTLT Market proudly accepts EBT/SNAP benefits, and when you shop with SNAP at our info booth, you’ll also receive Maine Harvest Bucks, bonus vouchers for fruits, veggies, and seedlings. WIC benefits are accepted by several of our produce vendors, and we also honor Bumper Crop vouchers, a workplace wellness program from the Maine Federation of Farmers Markets.

For our youngest shoppers, the Power of Produce (POP) Club is a highlight of the season. Hosted at the BTLT Info Booth and supported by Brunswick Vet, GoGo Refill, Dead River Company, and the Nathaniel Davis Fund, POP gives kids vouchers to spend on fruits and veggies of their choice. It’s a fun way to encourage healthy eating, food exploration, and a connection to the people who grow our food. Last year, over 600 kids participated, averaging 90 kids each week! Learn more about how you can support POP Club here.

More Than Groceries

The BTLT Farmers Market is truly a community gathering space. It’s where neighbors swap recipes, kids play in the grass, musicians add a lively soundtrack to your shopping trip, and friends bump into each other unexpectedly. In 2024, we parked about12,500 cars, each one carrying people who contributed to the lively hum of conversation and connection that makes Market mornings so special. And it’s good for our local economy, too! Last year, an estimated $1.7 million was spent with our vendors, directly supporting Maine farmers and producers and keeping food dollars right here in our communities.

A Market Worth Celebrating

We’re proud to have been voted “Best Farmers Market in Maine” for three consecutive years, and we’d love your help making it four! Every vote helps lift up the hard work of our farmers, bakers, brewers, fishers, and makers, and spreads the word about the value farmers markets bring to our economy and community.
