Cathance River Nature Preserve
The 230-acre Cathance River Nature Preserve, accessed from the Highland Green development, is a cooperative effort among BTLT, Highland Green, and the Cathance River Education Alliance (CREA). Public hiking and cross-country ski trails connect the Highland Green property with the Cathance River, passing quarries and a fabulous, almost-circular heath sanctuary. The preserve slopes from the development down to the river through a mix of fields and forest and then runs along 1-½ miles of the Cathance River shoreline. The heath sanctuary has a trail around its perimeter and is connected with the remainder of the preserve through a narrow corridor. Five interconnected loop trails are marked with different color blazes for easy navigation.
