Crystal Spring Farm was acquired between 1994 and 2008 with strong community support and has since become a model for farmland preservation. Since its purchase, BTLT has worked to return the farm to active farming. The farm’s agricultural fields are leased to Crystal Spring Community Farm, a sheep and organic vegetable farm that operates a CSA. BTLT strives to make Crystal Spring Farm a community resource by operating the popular Saturday Farmers’ Market from May through October, providing over 5 miles of public trails, hosting community events, and establishing the Tom Settlemire Community Garden – all at the farm.
On the south side of Pleasant Hill Road, 2.5 of miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails circle around the active agricultural areas, meander through the woods and fields, and cross a large blueberry barren. On the north side of the road, trails crisscross the 155 acres, which consist of dense woods and large, open fields. The trails on both sides of the road are being tracked for skiing by the Brunswick Recreation Department.
