![]() Crystal Spring Farm comprises 322 acres located less than two miles from downtown Brunswick. Once a thriving dairy farm, it is one of Brunswick's last major farms and is an unbroken landscape of fields and forests running along both sides of Pleasant Hill Road. Pleasant Hill Road is a gateway into Brunswick, the last remaining gateway through hay fields, pastureland, and active farming. It is a connection between towns and between fast-developing Brunswick and its rural roots. Without BTLT's purchase of the farm, it almost certainly would have been developed into residential house lots, and the agricultural productivity, public access for recreation, and character of the land would have been lost. In 1998, BTLT successfully completed a five-year campaign to preserve 160 acres of Crystal Spring Farm on the south side of Pleasant Hill Road. Raising the $775,000 to make that purchase was a monumental effort on behalf of the trust, its supporters, and the community. The result has been the reintroduction of sustainable farming, construction of public-access trails through the woods and fields, and a home for Brunswick's popular Saturday farmers' market. In the spring of 2005, BTLT negotiated a Purchase and Sale Agreement with the Dionne Family for Crystal Spring Farm North. Our job now is to raise $2 million to acquire and endow the additional 162 acres while allocating $400,000 of that total for badly needed renovations to the farmstead. We invite you to join us in reestablishing the connections between Crystal Spring Farm North and South, in the process reconnecting each of us to our history, to the land that physically and emotionally sustains us. | |
